PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- Five new Pawtucket police officers were sworn in Wednesday afternoon, helping fill some of the vacancies at the Police Department.
The new officers bring the roster to 143, below 153 this time last year, said Chief Paul King.
The five, all college graduates, were among 49 recruits who graduated from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy Wednesday morning.
"These men have earned your respect and have earned the honor to wear the uniform," said Public Safety Director Tony Pires.
The five are paid $908.81 weekly during their six-month probation period, after which their weekly salary rises to $1,065.67, said Maj. Arthur Martins.
The new officers are: Douglas M. Harrington; Kyle J. Juckett; Craig S. Letourneau; Gregory J. Malo (son of retired Pawtucket Officer Michael Malo); and Patrick R. Quinn.
