PROVIDENCE -- A vigil for the students and teachers killed in the shootings in Newtown, Conn., is to be held at 7 p.m. Thursday on the steps of the State House facing the south lawn.
Organizer Kelly Reid of Providence, a disabled veteran and University of Rhode Island freshman, said the vigil was being organized to demonstrate to people in Connecticut that Rhode Islanders care.
Since state rules do not allow the use of candles on the marble steps, participants were being urged to bring green glow sticks.
