WARREN, R.I. -- A Barrington woman who was pulled from a burning car that had been involved moments earlier in a chain reaction four-car accident on Schoolhouse Road has died.
Rhode Island Hospital confirmed that Carolyn Corbett, 68, died at the hospital around 11:15 Friday morning.
Despite the fatal outcome, police and fire officials praised the heroic efforts of a formerly active member of the town's volunteer fire department, Patrick Rimoshytus, who they say braved smoke and fire to enter Corbett's smoke-filled vehicle as it was nearly engulfed in flames from the passenger side to cut her seat belt with a knife when he came on the scene around 2:35 p.m. Wednesday.
Fire Chief Alexander Galinelli said the fire fighters gave her relatives a chance to say good-bye.
