PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- All is calm and bright on this Wednesday morning, but that will change.

A wintry mix will blow into the region around 7 p.m. before changing over to rain in most areas, according to the forecast from our weather partners at WPRI.

Areas north and west of Providence could see several hours of snow, sleet or freezing rain, leaving a coating to 1 inch of accumulation. Higher elevations could see as much as 3 inches.

Wind gusts of 45 to 60 mph hour are possible along the south coast.

The high temperature today should reach 36 to 39 degrees.

The wet weather and strong wind will continue into Thursday with some showers lingering into the afternoon.
