CRANSTON, R.I. -- The Brookings Institution announced Monday that a Cranston manufacturer has endowed the institution's new John Hazen White Jr. Forum on Public Policy to study manufacturing.
Brookings' Darrell M. West will lead the project, named for the president and CEO of Taco Inc.
The project launches Thursday with a conference at the Washington institution to explore how to strengthen manufacturing to improve the nation's economic performance. The governance-studies program at Brookings will explore questions such as "What does good manufacturing policy look like in a new economic reality?"
"John White's generosity enables us to explore this important area, and raise public and policymaker awareness of this sector," said West, vice president of governance studies and director of Brookings' Center for Technology Innovation.
