PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Here's how Providence residents can discard Christmas trees in an environmentally friendly way:
Starting Monday, Jan. 7, trees put out at the curb on regular trash collection days, without ornaments, tinsel, lights or stands and not in any kind of bag, will be collected by the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation and turned into compost.
Free curbside pickup of Christmas trees will end on Jan. 18, a news release from Mayor Angel Taveras said.
