More than 10 inches of snow were reported in the northernmost parts of Rhode Island as a winter storm continued to blanket the area Saturday night.

Police departments around Rhode Island were reporting numerous, but minor, car accidents caused by the snow.

Snow will be steady and heavy until about 10 p.m. to midnight.

The first flakes began falling in early afternoon, with as much as 5 to 9 inches expected in inland areas, according to our weather partners at WPRI.com earlier in the day. By the evening, WPRI.com predicted up to a foot in some places.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for all of the state, from Saturday morning through Sunday morning, an email from the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency said Friday evening.

Clouds will deliver moderate to heavy accumulations into Sunday. High temperatures will be between 30-36 with winds from the east and northeast at 5-15 mph.

Several parking bans are in place, and some churchs have cancelled services for Sunday. . Check here for parking bans, cancellations and closings.
