CRANSTON, R.I. -- Mayor Allan W. Fung said Monday he will discuss pension cuts with retired police and firefighters in January.
"I'm hoping to start productive sessions" soon, said the mayor, who spent part of the morning working on dates for the first talks.
Fung has been asking for retirees to appoint a negotiator to begin pension reform talks since September.
Meanwhile, he has been pushing a plan that would suspend annual cost-of-living increases for 10 years and then cap them at 3 percent annually.
When he first unveiled his plan to retirees, many objected, and called the cuts illegal.
