PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The so-called national offer for a free tow home if you are too drunk to drive between 6 p.m. New Year's Eve to 6 a.m. New Year's Day is not good in Rhode Island, an auto club official said Monday.
Diana Imondi Dias said that AAA Southern New England does not participate in Tipsy Tow.
"Our position is that we want to be able to provide road service to our customers as soon as possible," said Imondi Dias, a traffic safety education specialist. The majority of participating clubs, she said, "are those in warmer weather climates that are not as busy as we are."
People who call for a free tow, she said, will be referred to nearby taxi services.
