Federal disaster aid to Rhode Island for damage caused by superstorm Sandy has topped $1 million, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Since President Obama's Dec. 14 decision to declare Sandy a major disaster for Rhode Island, individuals, families and public entities in the state have received a total of $1,060,342 in aid, according to figures released by FEMA on Monday.
Among the numbers as of Dec 30: 509 households have registered with FEMA for some type of disaster assistance, including grants, loans and other services; $293,243 has been approved for housing assistance, including for repairs and rentals; $22,086 has been approved for other needs, including medical and dental expenses, funeral costs, and loss of personal property and transportation.
Aid registration deadline is Jan. 14.
