PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Re-elected for a third term as Senate president, state Sen. M. Teresa Paiva Weed said Tuesday that economic development -- and creating a "long-term vision for economic success" -- will be top goals during the 2013 legislative session.
Paiva Weed said the to-do list includes better equipping the workforce with needed job skills, improving education from pre-kindergarten through college and "reversing Rhode Island's reputation as an over-regulated state."
"Working together, with strength and compassion, courage and determination, we can move Rhode Island towards a brighter tomorrow," the Newport Democrat said.
Paiva Weed, the first woman to serve as Senate president, was reelected on a 37-1 vote.
