PORTSMOUTH, R.I. -- The Portsmouth High School marching band has been selected to participate in the Inaugural Parade on Jan. 21 in Washington, D.C., U.S. Rep. David Cicilline announced Wednesday in a congratulatory tweet.
Band Director Ted Rausch confirmed the selection. "We are very excited to be going down," he said in an e-mail. "Our Music Boosters have been working hard the last few days to come up with ways to fundraise as it is two weeks away."
Booster President Jim Wilkinson and fundraising director Joe Maiato said the trip for 150 musicians and 20 color guard and dance-troupe members is expected to cost $40,000 to $50,000.
To donate, visit the booster website or mail a check to PHS Music Boosters, P.O. Box 21, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
