Today in RI history: Arctic air chills the region

A year ago today:
A mass of Arctic air has started its move into Rhode Island, setting the stage for single-digit temperatures in most of the Ocean State.

5 years ago today:
A judge orders a Barrington teenager held pending a hearing, noting the boy stands accused of fleeing authorities at Colt State Park before slamming his car into a seawall and pinning a pedestrian. The case marks the latest in a string of incidents involving Barrington teens, alcohol and either injury or death.

25 years ago today:
A woman whose body was found in a room at the Holiday Inn at the Crossing was strangled, says Dr. William Q. Sturner, chief state medical examiner. Detectives were trying to establish the woman's identity.
