PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- An ex-convict is back behind bars after fleeing a court-ordered drug treatment program on Christmas Eve, authorities say.

Michael Drepaul is being held at the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility after his arrest Tuesday.

Drepaul, 31, served 110 months in prison as a felon in possession of a firearm after firing a handgun from a car in Manton Heights. He was freed from prison in June 2011, only to return for another 14 months for violating probation by resisting arrest following a police chase.

He was released Nov. 21 to begin a 90-day program, which he left without permission, authorities say.

Drepaul is central to the state's case against two prominent defense lawyers who are accused of bribing him not to testify in an alleged stabbing case.
