SOUTH KINGSTOWN -- University of Rhode Island director of athletics Thorr Bjorn says that the Rams will not play football at Penn State in 2013.
URI players tweeted recently that URI would play at Penn State this fall, and coach Joe Trainer said "there's a strong possibility," according to a published report.
Bjorn had said earlier Wednesday that URI and Penn State have talked but were far from scheduled.
Each team already has a 12-game schedule for 2013. URI has signed contracts for non-conference games against Old Dominion, Fordham, Brown and Central Connecticut plus an eight-game Colonial Athletic Association schedule.
Bjorn had acknowledged that schedules can change and "anything can happen," but a conversation late Wednesday afternoon evidently ended whatever chance existed for a URI-Penn State game this year.
