NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) -- A 19-year-old New Bedford man has been charged with stabbing a school van driver in a road rage incident as six middle school students looked on.
Aaron Maldonado was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing at his arraignment Thursday in New Bedford District Court.
Maldonado is charged with armed assault with intent to commit murder, mayhem, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Police say Maldonado's car took a wide turn and almost hit the van Wednesday afternoon. Both drivers honked and exited their vehicles. Police say a verbal argument escalated with Maldonado pulling a pocket knife and stabbing 39-year-old Paul Medeiros. He tells The Standard Times he received 40 stitches in his head.
