PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Two members of Rhode Island's congressional delegation have been appointed to serve on a congressional task force to reduce and prevent gun violence.

U.S. Representatives David N. Cicilline and James R. Langevin announced that they've been appointed to serve on the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, which is due to release a set of comprehensive policy proposals in early February.

Some ideas include restrictions on firearms, improving the mental health-care system, and strengthening the background check system.

Cicilline, a founding member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, is the lead sponsor of a bill to prevent gun dealers whose licenses are revoked from selling off their inventory without conducting background checks.

Langevin said he plans to announce legislation next week to strengthen the inspections process of gun dealers and increase penalties.
