PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- RISD Museum's 2,500-year-old mummy, Nesmin, and his coffin are being moved from his usual exhibition place on the sixth floor to a new location for a special exhibition of ancient Egyptian objects in the fourth-floor Waterman Gallery.
"Made for Eternity," opening March 15, highlights everyday functional objects -- amulets, small bronze statues of gods, carved granite, and painted panel portraits, all made between 3700 BCE and 250 CE -- as well as those used for temple worship and funerary practices, giving a glimpse into life and death in ancient Egypt. Nesmin will return to the sixth floor galleries in spring 2014, after renovations are completed.
