PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A mediator has been appointed to try to resolve the ongoing dispute over ending the state receivership in Central Falls that has dragged on for more than 2½ years.
Superior Court Judge Michael A. Silverstein has assigned William Dolan III, a lawyer at Brown Rudnick, of Providence, to try to resolve the battle between Receiver John F. McJennett III and three members of the Central Falls City Council. The councilors are William Benson Jr., Eunice DeLaHoz and Pat. J. Szlastha.
Lawrence L. Goldberg, of Warwick, who is defending the councilors, filed a motion in December asking the court to immediately end the receivership. Meanwhile, McJennett and Rosemary Booth Gallogly, state revenue director, have countered that the receivership cannot end until they are confident that the council is prepared to run the city.
