WEST WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island educators are holding a vigil in support of students and teachers of Newtown, Conn., where a gunman last month killed 26 people at an elementary school, including 20 children.
Friday evening's vigil has been organized by two teachers' unions, the National Education Association Rhode Island and Rhode Island Federation of Teachers.
Frank Flynn, president of the Rhode Island Federation of Teachers, says they want to memorialize the victims and bring the educational community together as a sign of solidarity for Newtown.
The vigil is being held at the West Warwick Civic Center.
