PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- An ex-convict suspected of carrying a gun was arrested early Thursday after he and three other ex-cons held children as "shields" against the police.
Eric Perkins, 27, who's served time for drugs and guns, was suspected of storing a gun at his mother's house at 21 Higgins Ave., said Capt. Anthony Sauro.
But before detectives served a search warrant there, officers investigating gunfire outside 133 Hillcrest Ave. arrested Perkins on unrelated warrants.
Perkins and his friends held children as shields when officers attempted to gain entry at Hillcrest, the police said.
Later at Higgins Avenue, detectives seized a revolver, ammunition, taser, BB gun and a scale with cocaine residue, according to a police report.
Perkins was ordered held without bail on drug and gun charges.
