PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A Barrington police sergeant was indicted Friday by a Providence County Grand Jury on one felony count of obstructing the judicial system and one count of cyberstalking, a news release from the Attorney General's office said Friday.

Joseph Andreozzi, 46, of 100 Federal Rd., Barrington, is alleged to have harassed his ex-wife by electronic communications, the Attorney General's office said. It also said that he tried to obstruct or impede due administration of justice.

Andreozzi's former wife reported to the Barrington police that he had threatened her over the phone and by text message, Barrington Police Chief John LaCross said. Andreozzi was arrested by state police, charged with domestic disorderly conduct, and placed on administrative leave.

Andreozzi's arraignment is Feb. 6 in Providence County Superior Court.
