Monday night's snowstorm arrived at about 4 p.m. across the southern part of the state, including Block Island, Newport and Portsmouth but not yet in Bristol or Smithfield, police dispatchers report.
Snow will be heavy at times, leaving from 3 to 5 inches overnight, with most of Rhode Island in the area expected to receive the most snowfall, the National Weather Service forecasters in Taunton, Mass., said at about 4:30 p.m. The storm comes with a winter weather advisory for all of R.I. and Bristol County, Mass. until 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Parking bans, most of them starting at 8 p.m. Monday, are announced or about to be announced in Bristol, Burrillville, Cranston, Cumberland, Middletown, North Providence, North Smithfield, Pawtucket, Portsmouth, Smithfield, South Kingstown, Warwick and West Warwick, as well as Swansea, Mass. Bitter cold will prevail after the snow stops around 8 a.m. Tuesday.
