PROVIDENCE, R. I. -- Starting February 11, Rubén Flores-Marzán will be the city's planning and urban director.
Thomas Deller, who last held the position permanently, resigned in March 2012.
Mayor Angel Taveras said Thursday, Flores-Marzán "brings an impressive portfolio of large-scale planning and development projects with him to Providence."
Flores-Marzán previously was state planning director for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. In 2011, the news release says he coordinated the implementation of solar and wind energy projects worth over $350 million.
He will oversee Providence's medium- and long-range development strategies and lead the department's about 25 city workers.
Taveras selected him from five finalists. The nationwide search attracted 18 candidates.
Flores-Marzán's salary, per city ordinance, is $96,679 annually.
