Jennifer MacLean, the CEO of 38 Studios when the video game company went bankrupt, starts this week as head of business development for Cambridge, Mass.-based Ovuline, a start-up firm which helps women understand their fertility cycles and helps couples get pregnant.
MacLean was on maternity leave when 38 Studios failed last June. She is one of 14 defendants in a lawsuit filed by the state of Rhode Island against 38 Studios founder Curt Schilling and advisers for the state who crafted the deal that lured his company to Providence.
The suit alleges fraud, negligence and legal malpractice and asserts that 38 Studios was destined to fail, and the defendants knew or should have known that the company would fail by 2012.
A $75-million loan guarantee and the bonds sold by the state Economic Development Corporation to back the deal could end up costing Rhode Island taxpayers more than $100 million. (Journal wire services)
