PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for Rhode Island ahead of strong winds that could bring down trees, cause power outages and make driving hazardous.
The warning is in effect in Rhode Island's five counties from late Wednesday until mid-morning Thursday. The strongest winds are expected between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Thursday
Forecasters are predicting sustained winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour. Gusts of 50 to 60 mph are possible.
The winds could bring down trees, limbs and power lines, and unsecured objects outside could become airborne. That could cause hazardous conditions for drivers and pedestrians.
