WARWICK, RI -- A special school-buildings study panel began looking at the details of closing one of the school district's three middle school while teachers and parents who were not allowed into the meeting protested in the hallway.
The short-term subcommittee of the facilities planning committee proceeded with its meeting in a conference room in the school administration building while about 60 teachers and parents waited in the hallway, occasionally chanting "Let us in."
The meeting room had seating for 52 people and school officials refused requests to move the meeting. They noted that it is only a work session and there will be future public meetings and hearings.
