WARWICK, R.I. -- A 19-year-old Warwick man who was killed Tuesday in a one-car crash on West Shore Road had enlisted in the Army because "he loved his country and he wanted to serve," his father said Thursday.
Timothy Torres was in Rhode Island visiting family and friends when he died after the car he was driving left the road and struck a tree. He was supposed to report for duty next week at Fort Richardson in Alaska.
The Army made Torres feel alive, his father, Emanuel Torres said, and he was looking forward to serving.
Timothy, a graduate of Warwick Veterans Memorial High School, was the oldest of Emanuel and Ana's two children. His sister, Kiana, 17, is a high school senior.
