PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The state Department of Health on Thursday urged those with special health-care needs to enroll in the Rhode Island Special Needs Emergency Registry in advance of the upcoming winter storm.
Enrolling allows local and state emergency officials to plan for, respond to, and care for those with disabilities, chronic conditions, and other special health-care needs in an emergency.
People who use life-sustaining equipment that needs electricity should contact their electricity provider and inform them of specific needs, if they haven't already done so. If shelters open, those planning to go to a shelter should bring at least a three-day supply of medications.
Those who do not have access to a computer can call 2-1-1.
