PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- A Pawtucket police officer is accused of domestic violence.
Officer Steven Ricco, 40, of Attleboro, Mass. is charged with domestic simple assault and three counts of domestic disorderly conduct against a Pawtucket woman.
Maj. Arthur Martins wouldn't elaborate on the relationship, except to say they are not married. Martins declined to say how the accusations came to light or whether the 15-year veteran was on duty. The Providence Journal has requested a copy of the arrest report under the state open records law.
Sgt. Robert Winsor investigated the complaints over several months. Ricco was arrested Sunday, arraigned before a bail commissioner, and released on $1,000 recognizance and an order not to contact the victim.
Ricco has been out on sick leave for two weeks.
