PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A Providence woman was rescued Thursday morning from a burning building in the city's Fox Point neighborhood.
Firefighters were called to the triple decker building at 104 John St., off Hope Street, just before 6:30 Thursday morning, Acting Battalion Chief Jeffrey Varone said.
The fire was contained to a room in the third-floor apartment. Tenants in the lower two units tried to reach the 60-year-old tenant at the apartment, but found her collapsed on the third-floor landing, Varone said. They were unable to pull her out. Firefighters from Engine 9 and Ladder 8 later got her out. She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital and is expected to recover.
