PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- With winter storm warnings and advisories in effect, Southern New England is feeling the impact of a big storm that battered the Midwest earlier this week.
Though little is sticking so far, the storm has brought wet snow inland, with a mix of rain and snow along the coast, according to our weather partners at WPRI.
Heavy snow will fall north of Providence, dumping 5 to 9 inches in that region by noon Friday, WPRI says. And while the coast will see just 1 to 3 inches of snow by Friday, it will feel the strongest wind, with gusts up to 55 mph.
The high temperature today will hit about 36 degrees.
A winter storm warning is in effect for Providence County and Bristol County in Massachusetts, while areas to the south are under a winter weather advisory.
Tonight, when the bulk of the accumulation is expected, will be windy. Snow and sleet will continue and the temperature will fall to about 33 degrees, WPRI says.
The snow and sleet won't stop until early afternoon Friday.
