WARWICK, R.I. -- MetLife Inc. is beginning a three-year plan to consolidate some of its operations by moving certain positions to North Carolina, but it has not yet determined how many jobs at the company's Warwick location will be affected.
Spokesman John Calagna said Thursday that eventually about 2,600 positions will be relocated from MetLife locations in Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
The jobs affected will be administrative positions in the retail divisions and technology jobs, he said. Some employees will be eligible to move while others might be able to apply for other jobs within the company.
Calagna said that the Warwick campus, which in 2008 had about 2,100 employees, will continue to serve as the corporation's headquarters for home and auto insurance.
