EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Olivia Culpo, the reigning Miss Universe, was scheduled to Skype with students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 at Bay View Academy on Thursday in honor of International Women's Day.
But she surprised students by returning to her alma mater in-person. Culpo tweeted Thursday:
@johndepetroshow @projo yes I got to surprise the school! They thought it was a skype call

Culpo, who grew up in Cranston and graduated from Bay View in 2010, was there to share her experiences and answer questions about meeting women from around the world.
Bay View thought I was doing a skype visit..Happy I could surprise you girls and actually come by today! #surprise #RI #BayView

Joan Moran-Izzo, former WPRI/Fox News reporter and Bay View alumna, also participated.
Students tweeted photos of Culpo's visit and even hinted that she'd make a great speaker for 2013 commencement.
@oliviaculpo thank you so much for the surprise ! I love you so much and it meant a lot for you to come <3 twitter.com/luce_jordan/st...
