PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Legislators on the House Finance Committee on Thursday questioned members of the "resource team" that Governor Chafee put in charge of the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority last summer, asking how long they will be there and how they were being paid.

"I don't have an answer for you," State Police Lt. Col. Raymond B. Studley told Rep. Deborah L. Ruggiero, D-Middletown, after she asked how long he expects to stay. Chafee installed Studley as chief executive officer last August after a security breach.

She tried again later, asking if would he be there "in perpetuity?"

Studley referred the question to Chafee's office. Then the second in command of the state police, Studley took over from then-CEO Charles Odimgbe, who was put on leave and later left the authority.

Studley said he's still on the Rhode Island State Police payroll.

The legislators were reviewing Chafee's budget proposals for transportation and RIPTA.
