NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The stepdaughter of Town Council President Kristen J. Catanzaro was charged Wednesday with conspiracy and obstructing justice after her father called police to report that his daughter had lied about being the driver when a car owned by the council president hit a no-parking sign.
Madisson A. Catanzaro's companion, Deniz Lobo, 18, of Pawtucket, who does not have a valid driver's license, was driving at 7:53 p.m. Monday when the 2012 Honda Civic damaged its right front end at 1744 Mineral Spring Ave. The car had to be towed.
Acting Chief Paul M. Martellini said that Madisson Catanzaro, 19, "indicated to her father that she was not truthful the night of the accident. He in turn contacted police headquarters," and both young people were charged with conspiracy and obstruction. Lobo also faces a charge of driving without a license.
Both are to appear in District Court, Warwick, on March 21.
