PROVIDENCE. R.I. -- Tempers flared at a Route 195 Redevelopment District Commission meeting Monday night over how much control the land panel may ultimately have or whether it's being asked to cede to the state some control granted to the commission by legislation that created the panel in 2011.

Lawyers for the state and the commission, commissioners and Governor Chafee's director of administration, Richard A. Licht, debated two main issues, at times with voices rising in disagreement:

Yet once the meeting ended, Licht, the lawyers and Commission Chairman Colin P. Kane downplayed the tension, saying they'll work out all remaining issues.

"None of these are deal-killers," said Charles F. Rogers, a partner with Edwards Wildman Palmer who is the commission's legal counsel. "We'll get through them."
