PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Fifteen Rhode Island companies have been awarded approximately $65,000 in "Express Grants" from the Governor's Workforce Board.
New this year, the express grants of up to $5,000 for individual companies help businesses train employees so the firms can become more productive and competitive, according to a statement issued by Governor Chafee.
If companies offer an approved school-year internship program, they can reduce by $2,500 the matching contributions they're required to make -- an option that five grantees have chosen.
Express Grant applications are accepted on a rolling basis. For more information, interested employers can call the Governor's Workforce Board at (401) 462-8856 or go online to rihric.com and follow the link to the "Grants/RFP" page for information about express and other grants available.
