PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Amtrak will restore service between New York and Boston this afternoon, the passenger service said in a news release.
Trains will begin running north from New York's Penn Station with Train 194 at 5 p.m. They will run from Boston's South Station starting with Train 2259 at 4:10 p.m.
"Passengers should expect residual delays through the New Haven area as a result of the derailed Providence & Worcester freight train that has been blocking the tracks since early this morning," Amtrak said.
Passengers who have paid but choose not to travel due to the disruption can get a refund or a voucher for future travel. Some tickets booked online but not yet printed can be modified or canceled on Amtrak.com or through Amtrak's mobile app.
