PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A man convicted of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl wasn't supposed to live with children when he got out of prison in February.
But two weeks after 24-year-old Kyle Roots was released, his probation officer and a Providence officer found two small children staying at his family's apartment at 99 Russo St.
Roots made threats against his probation officer after she reported the situation to the Department of Children, Youth and Families, said Officer Chris Poncia.
Roots then disappeared, leading to a profile on Rhode Island Most Wanted.
Tuesday morning, police and the U.S. Marshals found Roots as he fled a first-floor apartment at 135 Puritan St., in Cranston. He was charged with failing to register and threatening a public official.
