PROVIDENCE -- House Speaker Gordon D. Fox, D-Providence, has a considerable war chest for his campaign against independent challenger Mark Binder, according to campaign finance reports filed with the state Board of Elections on Tuesday.
Fox had more than $237,000 as of Oct. 8, after raising some $39,000 and spending nearly $25,000 since July 1.
Binder had just $1,530 after raising about $5,000 and spending more than $4,300 in the same period.
Fox and Binder face off in at least two debates in the coming weeks.
On Thursday, they meet on "State of the State," a public affairs program on the state's public access channel.
Then on Oct. 17, they meet at a forum sponsored by Providence's Summit Neighborhood Association.
