PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Father-daughter dances, Rhode Island's voter identification law, and in-state tuition for non-citizen immigrants are among the issues up for discussion Wednesday in a busy day at the State House.
And for the first time, many of the hearings will be streamed live on the Internet.
Here are some of the events, most of which will start about 4:30 p.m.:
* The House Judiciary Committee will consider a bill to repeal the voter ID law, which will require voters in 2014 to have a photo ID. Room 313.
* The House Labor Committee will consider a bill that would prohibit employers from including inquiries about criminal records on job applications. House lounge.
* Sen. Juan Pichardo and Rep. Grace Diaz, both Providence Democrats, will hold a 3 p.m. news conference to push for a bill to allow all Rhode Island students to pay in-state tuition rates at state colleges, regardless of their immigration status. (This would make current policy into law.) Room 313
* The Senate Education Committee will consider a bill to permit schools to provide activities for students of one sex, such as father-daughter dances, provided that comparable activities are provided for students of the opposite sex. Room 212.
