PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin Wednesday announced a $150,000 grant to the Housing Action Coalition of Rhode Island for foreclosure prevention work.
The coalition is a nonprofit advocacy group that helps low-income individuals find affordable living situations.
Kilmartin is responsible for distributing $8.5 million in foreclosure prevention money given to the state as part of the national $25-billion foreclosure-abuses settlement reached in 2012 between 49 state attorneys general and five of the nation's largest mortgage lenders.
Kilmartin has previously awarded a two-year, $1.57 million grant to Rhode Island Legal Services for the Foreclosure Prevention Project, a $375,000 grant to the Housing Network of Rhode Island, a $155,000 grant to Progreso Latino and a $60,000 grant to HousingWorks RI.
