PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The city of Providence and three other communities are hosting a statewide gun buyback program in April.
Providence Mayor Angel Taveras announced Thursday that he and Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian, Central Falls Mayor James Diossa, and Bristol Town Administrator Antonio Teixeira were coordinating the buyback.
This plan is a way to get unwanted guns off the street, Taveras said in a statement.
The buybacks will be held April 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Bristol Police Department, Knights of Columbus on 20 Claremont St. in Central Falls, the DaVinci Center for Community Progress at 470 Charles St. in Providence, and the Warwick Police headquarters.
Firearms must be unloaded and operable, in exchange for retail gift cards ranging from $50 to $200.
