sunil_80.jpgPROVIDENCE, R.I. _ The F.B.I. is assisting Providence police in the search for the missing Brown University student, which has expanded to Boston, Connecticut, New York and Philadelphia.

Sunil Tripathi, a philosophy major at Brown who grew up in Bryn Mawr, Pa., was last seen in the campus area on Friday, March 15, at about 7:30 p.m., according to a statement from the university.

His wallet, ID cards, credit cards and cell phone found were in his room, his sister, Sangeeta Tripathi said.

Sangeeta Tripathi, confirmed reports Sunday that the F.B.I. is assisting the Providence police in the investigation. She said that foul play is unlikely, though nothing has been ruled out.

Sunil Tripathi has been living in Providence since 2008. He was on approved leave from Brown.

Brown University reported Saturday that the search is expanding outside of Providence to Boston, Connecticut, New York, and Philadelphia.

Tripathi is 6 feet tall and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black ski jacket, glasses and a wool hat.

To aid in the search, the family has created a Facebook page "Help Us Find Sunil Tripathi" and a Twitter account account "@finding-sunny." People can also e-mail sangtrip@gmail.com or call (917)774-9208.
