The state Department of Health has restored the pharmacist license of former state Sen. Leo Blais, but with limitations.
A year ago, Health Director Michael D. Fine indefinitely suspended Blais's license after "dispensing error" at his pharmacy resulted in an 11-month-old and a 2-year-old receiving unintended doses of morphine.
The Health Department also accuses Blais of improperly removing drugs from a pharmacy and compounding drugs in an environment that did not meet standards -- allegations that Blais disputes.
Late last week, Blais accepted a two-year suspension retroactive to March 23, 2012, with the second year of suspension stayed. During the second year, Blais's license is on probation; he is forbidden from serving as a pharmacist-in-charge or a preceptor and required to undergo 40 hours of training.
