TIVERTON, R.I. -- Hoping to recreate some of what it was like when their parish was formed 300 years ago, members of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church are planning a special anniversary service this Sunday using the 1662 Book of Common Prayer.
The Rev. John Higginbotham, the church's rector, says the church's beginnings go back to when the Rev. John Honyman, the rector of Trinity Church in Newport, regularly traveled by horse and by boat to minister to Anglicans on the other side of the Sakkonet River.
He plans to arrive for the 10 a.m, service atop a chocolate brown horse he will have mounted at Grinnell Beach and "greet my people just as Honyman would have greeted his people."
