PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A convicted drug dealer who's also a medical-marijuana caregiver was arrested Friday after the police said they found a marijuana-growing operation, three firearms including an assault rifle, and $15,500 at his Wanskuck apartment.
Police said Casey Dunphy, 28, of 33 Columbus St., drew attention when he sold marijuana to Ryan Sbardella, 30, who police said wasn't a patient.
The detectives seized 26.4 ounces of marijuana, 37 marijuana plants, a Bushmaster AR-15 .223 caliber rifle, a loaded Mossberg 20 gauge shotgun, a .44 magnum handgun, ammunition and 30-round magazines, and $15,500 cash.
Dunphy was charged with drug and firearms offenses, and Sbardella, of Barrington, was charged with marijuana possession.
State law bars those with felony drug convictions from serving as caregivers. Dunphy was on probation after pleading no contest in 2011 to a felony drug charge. A state Health Department spokeswoman declined comment, citing confidentiality.
