PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Rhode Island Senate on Wednesday afternoon approved the nomination of four new members of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation board of directors.
Three won unanimous approval, with votes of 35 to 0: Shannon E. Brawley, executive director of the Rhode Island Nursery and Landscape Association; Dr. Nancy Carriuolo, president of Rhode Island College; and Roland Fiore, president of South County Sand & Gravel Co. Inc., in South Kingstown.
The fourth of Governor Chafee's five pending nominees was approved with a vote of 30 to 4: AFL-CIO President George H. Nee, the last holdover from the former board that approved a controversial loan guarantee for Curt Schilling's video-game company, 38 Studios.
The Senate has not yet voted on Chafee's fifth nominee because Jason E. Kelly, executive vice president of Moran Shipping Agencies, was out of town on business last week when the Senate's commerce committee approved the other four.
