PROVIDENCE -- State health director Michael D. Fine Wednesday put a hold on the restoration of the pharmacist license held by former state Rep. Leo Blais.

In a letter to administrative hearing Officer Catherine Warren, Fine said he disapproved "of the consent order ratified by the Rhode Island Board of Pharmacy" that gave Blais his license back.

A year ago, Fine indefinitely suspended Blais's license after a "dispensing error" at his pharmacy, Apothecare Compounding Solutions in East Greenwich, resulted in an 11-month-old and a 2-year-old receiving unintended doses of morphine in March 2012.

"I consider the agreement between the parties outlined in the order to be insufficient, given the facts leading to the summary suspension of Leo Blais," Fine said.
